2nd Annual Lions Diabetes Research Update

25.8 million people in the United States are living with diabetes. More than 375,000 people in Minnesota have diabetes and that number is on the rise.

You and a guest are invited to hear from people who are cured of diabetes because of the diabetes research at the University of Minnesota. We will also hear from the world-renowned diabetes scientists at the University of Minnesota.

Program Highlights:
  • Two islet cell transplant patients will share their experience living with diabetes and how being cured of the disease has changed their life
  • Dr. Bernhard Hering will provide an update on his current preclinical trial that is one step away from anticipated FDA approval to transplant pig islets into humans to cure their diabetes
  • Dr. Klearchos Papas will present his research (that the MN Lions Diabetes Foundation is supporting) on viewing transplanted islets inside the body pre and post-transplant
  • Tour and see firsthand the most powerful imaging magnets in the world – where scientists in real time and non-invasively view inside the body.
