The city of St. Michael, located in eastern Wright County is a rapidly growing city whose
population climbed from 9,000 in 2000 to more than 15,000 today.
Interstate 94 and Minnesota State Highway 241 are two of the main arterial routes in the city.
The original village was founded in 1854 by settler John Aydt and his son Leonard. Other settlers
began moving in during spring 1855. A log chapel was constructed in 1856, and the first business
opened in 1856.
The establishment of the village of St. Michael at its current location took place in 1866, with the
downtown business district incorporated in 1890.
Growth continued during the 20th Century and really sprouted after Interstate 94 was constructed
in the 1970s. Frankfurt Township and St. Michael merged in 1996.
Today St. Michael's rural feel, convenient location, great schools and abundant parks, lakes and
natural resources have made it a popular place to move and raise a family.
